The Israeli army has launched a hot air spy balloon from a military outpost just outside the Kroum Sharaqi locality on the outskirts of Mays al-Jabal, a Lebanon state media correspondent reported on Wednesday December 5th.
“Earlier at dawn, the enemy had installed a camera upon the cement wall separating Lebanon and Occupied Palestine, and directed it towards the Lebanese territories,” said a statement published by the National News Agency (NNA)
Israeli forces, according to the NNA, resumed setting earth mounds and barricades behind the technical fence off al-Wazzani, with a military vehicle patrolling the area.
This comes amid rising tensions following the Israeli military’s announcement it would take action to deter cross-border attack tunnels dug by the Lebanon-based Hezbollah militia.
After announcing the discovery of the tunnels on Tuesday morning, Israel said it would proceed with destroying them, dubbing the operation Northern Shield.
The last battle fought in the Israeli-Lebanese conflict was in 2006, when Hezbollah’s killing of eight Israeli soldiers and kidnapping of two others on the northern border triggered a violent military response from Tel Aviv.
