Liverpool are set to play Chelsea in the UEFA super cup final on Wednesday, August 13th. The two clubs won both European competitions last season with Liverpool winning the Champions League and Chelsea taking the Europa League title.

They started their season in opposite fashion this year with Liverpool opening the Premier League campaign with a 4-1 win at home to Norwich on Friday, August 9th. Chelsea on the other-hand were beaten 4-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford a day later.

Liverpool will be without goalkeeper Allison Becker who suffered a knee injury during the win against Norwich. Defender Dejan Lovren, who has been linked with a move to AS Roma has also not travelled with squad due to illness. Long-term absentee Nathaniel Clyne will also be missing from the team.

Chelsea will be without midfielder N’Golo Kante, but Willian and Antonio Rudiger are set to return to the squad and are expected to be on the bench. Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek both remain out with injury.

AFP reported that Chelsea manager Frank Lampard said that he was confident in his players despite the midweek defeat. "I am optimistic because I believe in the players and I believe we are here in the final because we deserve to be here.

"I am very proud to be here managing the team, but I am also very understanding of the quality of Liverpool. We know it's going to be a big test, but yes I believe in my players and if we play to our maximum, we can win the match."

He also rejected any criticism over the fact that he picked young players. "I will have no fears to play young players, it's important at a club like Chelsea that we do that, but they need to deserve the chance."

AFP reported that Liverpool head-coach Jurgen Klopp said that the appointment of new manager Lampard could give Chelsea players extra motivation. "If people really think that Chelsea is not a real challenge then I can't help these people.

"They are really strong and young and fresh, and everything is exciting in the moment because Frank is there, new, the club legend. It will be really interesting, and for us it's a really important game."
