Rafael Nadal is through to the next round at Wimbledon after beating Israeli Dudi Sela in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-2. Nadal will play Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan next.
The 17-time Grand Slam champion was comfortable playing his first grass court game since his last Wimbledon encounter that ended with a 4t h round defeat to Gilles Muller.
Nadal is on course to match his personal tournament-best, set in 2008 and 2010, and is seen as the favourite, especially after becoming Roland Garros champion for the 11t h time in his career.
On Court Number One, Novak Djokovic beat the 26-year-old American, Tennys Sandrgen, by a similar score to Nadal’s. The 3-time Wimbledon winner beat his 57th-ranked opponent in just over an hour and half with a comfortable 6-3. 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Djokovic looks on course to overcome last year’s disappointment when he had to quit the All England Lawn Tennis tournament in the quarter-finals due to an elbow injury.
The 13-time Grand Slam winner is next playing the 37t h -ranked Argentine Horacio Zeballos.
