Michele Leridon, the news director at AFP, said on Tuesday she would leave her post soon, hoping to "hand over the flag" to someone else, after taking office for several years.
Leridon said at the agency's editorial meeting on Tuesday morning that she had decided to "hand over the flag" to another person four and a half years after taking over.
"To take this position between four and five years is good."
The resignation comes as the agency enters a new phase. Last autumn, the new director-general, Fabrice Fries, launched a "transformation plan" at the agency.
