At least nine people, including two civilians, were killed Thursday in a new series of fighting between rival armed groups south of the Libyan capital, Tripoli, reports AFP.

Another 13 people, including four civilians, were wounded. Despite the UN-sponsored ceasefire on September 4, fighting resumed this week, especially in the Salahaddin district and on the road to Tripoli International Airport, which was destroyed in 2014 in similar battles.

Since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, Tripoli has been at the mercy of militias seeking money and power and is since engaged in a violent struggle to control the capital.
