Peru Calls on Lima Group to Cut Ties with Venezuela

Peru announced on Friday it would urge the Lima Group, which is comprised of 14 countries mostly located in Latin America to cut diplomatic ties with Venezuela and issue a travel ban on senior officials, reports AFP.

The 14-member regional group refuses to recognise Venezuela's May elections and Maduro win for the new six-year term because of irregularities.

"The natural result is that we propose cutting off diplomatic relations with Venezuela as one of the measures we will take," Peruvian Foreign Minister Nestor Popolizio said.

He told reporters that Peru would apply for this, as well as a travel ban for senior Venezuelan officials, at a meeting scheduled for December 19 for the group countries that include Canada and most of the major Latin American countries.
