Real Madrid’s coach Zinedine Zidane announced that his team’s star forward should return to the France national team squad, after a long spell of absence.

The 31-year-old Benzema has not played for France since 2015, when he was placed under formal investigation, over his alleged part in an attempt to blackmail fellow French international, Mathieu Valbuena.

But France’s national team coach, Didier Deschamps, has announced his team’s squad without calling for Benzema.

"He (Benzema) has always wanted to play for France," said Zidane.

Zidane said that he does not know exactly what is going on, but from a football point of view, Benzema is the best, and he should definitely have a place in the national team.

"It's beyond my position here but football-wise, there is no debate," Zidane added.

The Real Madrid coach Zidane is considered one of France’s greatest ever players as he made 108 appearances with the Les Bleus.

Real Madrid will face Eibar away from home on Saturday November 9th, with high levels of performance on display after smashing Galatasaray 6-0 in the Champions League.

The Spain La Liga giants will continue without the services of Gareth Bale, and James Rodriguez, but both players have resumed light training, and could play for Wales and Colombia respectively.

"They (Bale and Rodriguez) have done something on the training pitch, but they are not available to play for us," Zidane said.

Gareth Bale, who recently recovered from a calf injury, has been recalled for Wales national team duty, as they need to beat both Azerbaijan and Hungary in order to qualify for Euro 2020.

Real Madrid are in the runners-up place of the La Liga table, level on 22 points with Barcelona, who will host Celta Vigo earlier on Saturday November 9th at home.
