Uganda's ruling party's Central Executive Committee said on Wednesday February 20th that incumbent President Yoweri Museveni would be its presidential candidate in an election scheduled for 2021, as reported by AP.
The highest decision-making body in the National Resistance Movement announced today at the party's Twitter account that its nomination was based on the work done by President Museveni during his current term.
Museveni was not able to run again under the country's constitution due to an upper age limit allowed bar, but the court paved the way by amending the clause last year.
The 74-year-old president will be able to run for his sixth term.
Museveni took power in 1986 and is considered a strong ally of the West.
