Russia’s national football team have booked their place in the Euro 2020 finals after beating ten-man Cyprus 5-0 away from home at Neo GSP Stadium on Sunday, October 13th to become the third team to qualify.
Valencia winger Denis Cheryshev snatched an early lead for Russia only nine minutes from the start before Magomed Ozdoev, who scored a fabulous long-range strike on Thursday, October 10th against Scotland, made it two goals midway through the first half.
Cyprus lost the services of their player Kostas Laifis, who was dismissed for a nasty lunge on Russian full-back Sergei Petrov in the 28th minute.
Russian striker Artem Dzyuba made the third goal in the 79th minute, before Aleksandr Golovin and Cheryshev's second completed the rout late on.
Russia are runners-up of Group I with 21 points, three points behind group leaders Belgium, who also booked their place in the tournament’s finals.
The European Championship finals, which start on June 12th next year, are being held at 12 different venues across the continent.
