The Special Olympics Great Britain Team has officially started the journey to the World Games in Abu Dhabi on March 8th. The previous evening saw the athletes, trainers and everyone involved get the send-off they deserved. A selection of well wishes and motivational words given to those traveling to the UAE to participate in this year’s biggest sporting event, the Special Olympics World Games 2019.

The send-off reception on March 7th was designed as an opportunity to come together and wish luck to the 128 athletes competing for Great Britain, the largest GB delegation ever sent out to Special Olympics World Summer Games. The event was supported by the host of the competition, the UAE’s embassy. One of the organisation’s ambassadors, actor Jim Carter OBE (Downton Abbey), spoke at the event and found just the right words to send the team on their way: “In Abu Dhabi it's going to be sunshine and happiness and you're going to come back with a hat full of medals and a lot of big smiles.”
