Sharjah hosted the first session of the Arab parliament for the child on April 7th, 2019. After nine years of continuous requests from different Arab presidents, HH Sharjah Ruler Dr.Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi finally inaugurated the headquarters of the Arab Parliament for the Child.
The opening session was attended by Dr Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, President of the Federal National Council, Sheikh Fahim Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Government Relations Department, HE Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Khawla Al Mulla, Chairman of the Advisory Council of Sharjah, HE MR. Ayman Barout, Secretary-General of The Arab Parliament for the Child.
This year 12 Arab countries participated with 44 candidates, each country sending four representatives. In response to calls for gender equality and endorsement of female participants, each country sent two female and two male candidates. HE The secretary-general Mr. Ayman Barout had also stressed the importance of considering the diversity of each country, while selecting the candidates from each country.
